What Causes Constant Acid Reflux

There are both anatomical and dietary factors that could be causing your constant acid reflux. When the tone of your contracted LES muscles is lower than normal, slight changes in your intra-abdominal pressure may also cause the rising up of stomach acids into the esophagus. Constant acid reflux may also occur as a result of the unexpected relaxing of the LES for short periods of time. This is an anatomical cause of constant acid reflux which can be treated by the use of medications such as Prilosec and Prevacid.

Constant acid reflux is mainly as a result of eating the wrong types of food, as well as unhealthy dietary habits. For instance, overeating just before bedtime is a habit that could easily lead to constant acid reflux. This is because when you lie down or go to sleep on a full stomach, your stomach contents are likely to press down on your LES thus causing pressure which leads to the backflow of stomach acids into the esophagus.

You should also avoid drinking liquids while you eat as this could be the cause of your constant acid reflux. Contrary to popular opinion that it is healthy to drink as you eat, this actually ends up straining your digestive functions. This is because the liquids only serve to dilute the acids necessary for digestion that the stomach produces. Your body is therefore left overworked in producing more stomach acids which could end up flowing back up the esophagus and resulting in constant acid reflux.

How To Treat Constant Acid Reflux

There are many ways to treat Acid Reflux

  • Diet
  • Eating Habits
  • Medication
  • Surgery

This is a list of increasing severity of ways that you can control acid reflux. The first one requires you to identify which foods you have a problem with, and then try to avoid them. There are also foods that help neutralize the acid and make your stomach less acidic.

Medication is a common treatment. The first medication most people take is Tums, this is an antacid that simply converts the extra acid into water using calcium. Another popular medication is Prevacid, and Prilosec. These medications both use a form of proton-pump inhibitor that actually reduces the amount of acid that is being produced in the stomach. These medications are more severe and more expensive.

Save Money on Heartburn Medication

As a heartburn sufferer I wanted to help others. I use Prevacid on a near daily basis, and my wife uses Prilosec quite a bit. We also try to save money whenever we can so I always check for a Prevacid coupon before I buy. My wife was looking for coupons for Prilosec when she found this great Prilosec coupons information blog. They also has had a link where we can get it for 20% cheaper than in stores, so now we both buy our medication online and save quite a bit of money
